Media Release: Province cuts Funding to the John M. Parrott Centre

June 24, 2021 – At their June 23rd meeting, Lennox and Addington County Council were alarmed to hear that the Province intends to decrease funding to The John M. Parrott Centre by $2.41 per resident per day.  This results in a loss of $107,463 in provincial funding which must be made up from the property tax levy.

Lennox and Addington County Flags lowered for 215 Hours

May 31, 2021 – Warden Ric Bresee has directed that flags at all Lennox and Addington County work sites be lowered to half-mast for 215 hours, in memory of the 215 children located in a mass grave on the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.   The flags will return to full-mast on June 8, 2021.

Warden Ric Bresee stated, “I hope this small gesture by our County government, will express our deepest sympathies to survivors, families, Indigenous Nations and all those affected by this tragedy.”

Eastern Ontario Heads of Council Urge Support for EORN Gig Project

May 18, 2021 - Local momentum continues to build for the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) Gig Project. Municipal heads of Council representing One hundred and four (104) municipalities from across Eastern Ontario have signed onto a letter urging the federal and provincial governments to support the project, which aims to connect homes and businesses across the region with ultra-fast internet speeds.

County of Lennox & Addington wins national municipal innovation award for “It’s OK to Not Be Ok” peer support program

Fredericton, NB (May 11, 2021) – The County of Lennox & Addington, ON has received national recognition for its “It’s OK to not be OK” Corporate Peer Support Program from the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA).  The Municipality was presented with the 2021 CAMA Willis Award for Innovation in the 20,001-100,000 population category during a Virtual Awards of Excellence Ceremony held today.

Update on COVID-19 Outbreak at The John M. Parrott Centre

March 29, 2021 - The John M. Parrott Centre was notified on the evening of March 25, 2021 of a single case of COVID-19 associated with a staff member.  As per ministry guidelines, a single case of COVID-19 triggers an automatic outbreak within the Home.  There have been zero new cases among staff, Residents, or families connected with the Home.

Since March 25th, the following precautions have been taken under the guidance of KFL&A Public Health:

March 26, 2021 - The John M. Parrott Centre is working closely with KFL&A Public Health to address a single case of COVID-19 associated with a staff member.  

As per ministry guidelines, a single case of COVID-19 triggers an automatic outbreak within the Home.  The Home was notified of the outbreak by KFL&A Public Health officials on the evening of March 25, 2021.
