Our Ordinary, Extraordinary Lives is an exhibit at the Museum of Lennox & Addington that speaks to this message through vibrant photography, commentary, and art. Our families today may look different from families 150 years ago, but this fact transcends time - Our Ordinary, is the Extraordinary.

Creighton Family

When Tara and I were planning their family photo session, one thing became clear: it would not have been an accurate exposition of their family life if we didn’t capture both sides of it: the gymnastics, *and* the farm life. Their two daughters are avid gymnasts. They practice multiple times a week, though the pandemic disrupted those plans a little bit. But even outside the gym, they climb anything they can find - including the giant tree in front of their old farmhouse. But during the rest of their spare time, they are farm girls, through and through. Being raised on a generation-old dairy farm means they know all about rearing cows, including what happens when a cow gets mastitis. They showed me around the barn, and in their fields, and of course they took every opportunity to climb various big hay bales. Community is also important to this family. They support local businesses when they can, and actively participate in running 4H clubs. It was an interesting challenge to choose which photographs to showcase from this family, because both aspects of their lives (gymnastics and farming) are so important.
