Fire at 113 West Mary St. Picton, ON

June 11, 2019 - On Saturday, June 8, 2019 a fire occurred at 113 West Mary Street, Picton around noon. This building is operated by Prince Edward Lennox & Addington Social Services (PELASS). The fire alarm system was activated and the fire department was on scene quickly.
The fire was contained to the north east end of the building where there is extensive damage. Thirteen units were affected but there were no injuries to tenants, their guests or pets.

The warmer months are a busy time at the Lennox and Addington County Museum and Archives. In between research requests and archival record processing, I try to find small passion projects to create access to parts of the archival collection that aren’t regularly accessed by researchers. This month, I decided to highlight ambrotypes and daguerreotypes since it is the 180th anniversary of the invention of the daguerreotype which revolutionized the history of photography.

A character-driven reader is someone who reads in order to get into the head of an interesting character -- this is different from those who read for setting, storyline or prose. A book with character as its biggest appeal is a book in which readers feel so connected with the characters that when the book is over, they feel they lost someone dear to them. However, there is more than one type of character-driven reader and there is more than one type of character-driven book.
Productive discussion between EOWC and Eastern Ontario Provincial MPPS

Picton, May 27, 2019 – Members of the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC) held a constructive meeting with their provincial counterparts last Friday, May 24, to discuss issues of interest for Eastern Ontario such as affordable housing, health care, emergency services, and financial impacts on municipal service delivery.
The meeting, co-hosted by EOWC Chair Andy Letham and MPP Todd Smith (also Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade), is an annual gathering of Provincial MPPs and the heads of Council from across the region.
