Having trouble paying your ticket? Call 613-354-1672

If you choose not to pay your ticket or haven’t done so within 15 days of receiving a Part 1 Ticket, you MUST choose one of the three options that are explained on the reverse of the ticket.

1. Plea of Guilty Payment Out of Court

You are pleading guilty to the offence and must pay the ticket amount in full following the payment options above.

2. Plea of Guilty with an Explanation or a Walk-In Quilty Plea

You have the opportunity to plead guilty and explain your situation before a Justice of the Peace in Napanee. You may be given a lower fine amount or have a longer time to pay it, but the charge itself cannot be reduced (e.g., a speeding charge of 20 kilometres over the limit cannot be reduced to 15 kilometres). What about demerit points? The Justice of the Peace cannot change or delete demerit points applied to the charge. You can submit this plea Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the County Memorial Building, 41 Dundas St.,W, Napanee, Ontario. An appointment is not required.

3. Trial (plead Not Guilty or Guilty of a Lesser Charge within 15 days of the Ticket Date)

First, sign under Option 3 on the back of your ticket, and verify your address and file with the court office at the address stated on the back of the ticket. Then, mail in the original offence notice (photocopies or NIA’s (Notice of Intention to Appear) are not acceptable). If you need an interpreter, provide your contact information so an interpreter can be scheduled.

You will receive a notice of Early Resolution with the date and time of your meeting.

If you receive a Summons with a court date, you must appear in court at that time.

What happens if you don’t appear for your court date? Not appearing for your court date means a trial could be scheduled to proceed in your absence or a warrant issued for your arrest, depending on the seriousness of the charge.
