Kristin reviews Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy, a new short story collection that will appeal to fans of other books by Cassandra Clare.

Kristin says, "The New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling collection of short stories revealing the adventures of Simon Lewis as he trains to become a Shadowhunter is now available in a beautiful hardcover edition at your library! I was very excited when this book was added to our collection and for long time fans of Cassandra Clare and her intoxicating fantasy world it is sure to be an instant hit!"

As I was reading this book, one of the greatest joys for me was seeing a few of my beloved old characters appear out of nowhere onto the page.

"The events of City of Heavenly Fire left Simon stripped of his memories and we now find Simon unsure of himself. He has been both a human and a vampire in the past but now he wants to train to become a Shawdowhunter in order to find his true self and purpose in life. It’s in this way that Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy begins and we are taken along for a wild ride as Simon travels to Idris so he can train alongside other teens at the newly restored Shawdowhunter Academy. However, the academy has fallen into a terrible state of disrepair, the meals are disturbingly unpleasant and random rodents occupy the walls which means it will be a difficult road ahead for Simon. Will he be able to prove his worth to himself and his friends by overcoming daily annoyances, gruelling physical tests and long days in the classroom? In addition, his time at the academy is mostly a frame for several other short stories about famous Shadowhunters or recognizable people from the past. If you have read and loved all the previous books written by this author such as the Infernal Devices series, then you are in for a few big surprises! As I was reading this book, one of the greatest joys for me was seeing a few of my beloved old characters appear out of nowhere onto the page. There is nothing quite like having some old favourites brought to the present with some twists and skill from a highly imaginative author! The concept of further exploring the background of characters and developing the back stories of side characters by writing short stories is a very crafty idea. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy was written with enthusiasm, was very fun to read and most certainly will provide entertainment for dedicated fans who just can’t get enough of the Shadowhunters!"
