Andree Duval, Relief Librarian for the County of Lennox & Addington Libraries, recently enjoyed a new book by Kelley Armstrong. This mystery/thriller was written with a young adult YA audience in mind, but can be enjoyed by adult readers too.

Here is Andree's review:

Winter Crane is biding her time until she can get out of Reeve’s End. It is nothing more than an exhausted mining town with huge unemployment and many miserable people that have nowhere else to go. A few teens have managed to leave town. Winter, who wants to be a doctor, plans to do the same right after her high school graduation.

Winter will not miss the town or her abusive, alcoholic father but she will miss the nearby woods. She goes there to hunt and for the refuge that she finds in a dilapidated shack. It is in the woods that Winter rescues a badly beaten boy named Lennon. She cannot carry him all the way into town so she takes him to the shack to recover.

Winter’s friend Edie is one of the teens who left town. She went to New York to attend design school. Lennon tells Winter that he met Edie at a party. Recently, she told him she was returning to Reeve’s End for a visit. He has been trying to call her but she does not answer. Lennon is worried that he cannot reach Edie and has come from New York to try to locate her.

Winter is very concerned even though she is not sure that Lennon is telling her the whole truth. In the past, she has wondered why some of the teens that have left town have never contacted their friends or family. She knows that her sister was mad at her and that is why Cady left, but should she not have been in touch by now?

As they search for answers, the pair is drawn into a game of cat and mouse with a terrifying stalker.

Lennon’s attacker finds the shack and taunts them by banging on the door and shooting arrows into it. Both teens are frightened and Lennon phones his older brother Jude to let him know he is in trouble. That night Lennon takes off leaving a note that says, “I’m going to fix this.”

After he gets Lennon’s message, Jude sets off for Reeve’s End. He shows up the next day and locates Winter. Jude is not convinced by her explanation of what has happened to Lennon. Winter does not trust Jude either but they will need to work together if they are to find Edie and Lennon. As they search for answers, the pair is drawn into a game of cat and mouse with a terrifying stalker. No one believes them or is willing to help. They must fend for themselves and learn to depend on each other. What secrets will they uncover? Will they survive the search and be in time to help their friends? The answers to these questions can be found in the young adult novel Missing by Kelley Armstrong to find out.
