On Monday, December 21, the Premier of Ontario announced Safer at Home Restrictions for the next 28 days and ordered a range of time-limited public health actions to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

On January 7, the closure of all elementary schools, publicly-funded and private, for in-person learning was extended, with students enrolled in publicly-funded schools moving to virtual learning from January 4 until January 22.

With direction from the Ministry of Education, Prince Edward-Lennox and Addington is collaborating with local licensed childcare providers to facilitate access to targeted Emergency Child Care for eligible parents of school-aged children.

Emergency Child Care is currently available in Picton, Napanee and Amherstview.

The service is provided at no costs to families, funded by the Province of Ontario, for eligible workers as identified by the Government of Ontario. For an updated list of eligible workers please email childcare@lennox-addington.on.ca

Applicants must live or work in the County of Prince Edward or the County of Lennox and Addington.

Applicants must be required to report to an official work location to deliver the service, without the ability to work from home.  Eligible workers who have the option to work from home, are expected to exercise this option and are not eligible for emergency child care service.

For two-parent families, both must be required to work outside the home and at least one must be an eligible worker.  If there is one parent working from home, your family will be deemed ineligible.

Applicants are required to provide proof of employment as part of the application process to determine eligibility. Application for emergency child care services does not guarantee eligibility.

If you have any questions please contact PELASS Children’s Services Department at 613-354-0957 x 2402 or email childcare@lennox-addington.on.ca

If you require care and meet the eligibility requirements above, please email: childcare@lennox-addington.on.ca to request an application.

Children’s Services staff will contact applicants as soon as possible to confirm eligibility.

Once an application is approved, eligible families will be required to complete all required documents with the Child Care Provider prior to the child’s first day of care.
