On Monday, April 13, the Premier of Ontario announced that all publicly funded and private elementary and secondary schools in the province are to move to teacher-led remote learning when students return from the April break on April 19, 2021.

With direction from the Ministry of Education, Prince Edward-Lennox and Addington Social Services is collaborating with local licensed childcare providers to facilitate access to targeted Emergency Child Care for eligible parents of school-aged children.

Emergency Child Care is currently available in Picton, Napanee, Amherstview and Massassagna-Rednersville.  Spaces may also be available in licensed home child care settings across the service area. The service is provided at no costs to families, funded by the Province of Ontario, for eligible workers as identified by the Government of Ontario. Please click here to review the list of eligible workers.

Spaces are reserved exclusively for school aged children of eligible workers who are not able to support their child’s learning/care at home while elementary schools are operating remotely, and have no other child care options.  The safety option for your family is to have children remain at home if at all possible.

Spaces may be limited and are available on a first come, first-served basis.

  • Applicants must live or work in the County of Prince Edward or the County of Lennox and Addington.
  • Applicants must be required to report to an official work location to deliver the service, without the ability to work from home.  Eligible workers who have the option to work from home, are expected to exercise this option and are not eligible for emergency child care service.
  • For two-parent families, both must be required to work outside the home and at least one must be an eligible worker.  If there is one parent working from home, your family will be deemed ineligible.
  • Applicants are required to provide proof of employment as part of the application process to determine eligibility. Application for emergency child care services does not guarantee eligibility.

If you have any questions please contact PELASS Children’s Services Department at 613-354-0957 x 2402 or email childcare@lennox-addington.on.ca

Children’s Services staff will contact applicants as soon as possible to confirm eligibility.

Once an application is approved, eligible families will be required to complete all required documents with the Child Care Provider prior to the child’s first day of care.
