Gather your friends and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Allan Macpherson House & Park in Napanee on Wednesday, August 8th at 7pm. Renowned Toronto based-theatre company Driftwood Theatre will be performing one of Shakespeare’s most enduring comedies, renamed Rosalynde (or, As You Like It) outdoors under the tent.

When circumstances force Rosalynde from her home in the city, she flees into the unknown wilds of the forest where she sets out on a journey of identity, self-discovery and love. She learns that when you carve your own path, sometimes you need to break the rules.

Looking back 100 years to Canada in 1918, Rosalynde (or, As You Like It) explores the right to be who we are, to love whom we choose and to do what we please in a time when women were fighting for equality, the government was regulating recreational substances, and conflict was shaping our country.

This presentation is a part of Driftwood Theatre’s 2018 Bard’s Bus Tour, bringing site-specific theatre to some of Ontario’s greatest outdoor spaces set as powerful backdrops. Every performance is unique to each particular community. Bard’s Bus Tour has been sharing theatre under the stars for nearly 25 years.

Early reviews about the performance are in! Rosalynde is "enchanting", "midsummer magic," "a theatre experience with wit, wonder, and a touch of magic, that takes Shakespeare far away from the dusty classroom and places it in the natural splendor of the outdoors."

Admission is free. Please bring a lawn chair. Doors open at 7pm, and the performance begins at 7:30pm. The Macpherson House is located at 180 Elizabeth Street in Napanee. For more information visit www.CountyMuseum.ca.
