Our Ordinary, Extraordinary Lives is an exhibit at the Museum of Lennox & Addington that speaks to this message through vibrant photography, commentary, and art. Our families today may look different from families 150 years ago, but this fact transcends time - Our Ordinary, is the Extraordinary.

The Carrier Family

"Amy, Kris, and their three kiddos are a hockey family through and through. When you’re a hockey family, you live and breathe hockey. You even go so far as to build an epic rink right in your back yard, so the children can enjoy hours of practice just a step away! While every family has encountered challenges with the pandemic, the Carrier family was also able to have a small benefit during this time: they got to enjoy their rink more than ever before. True, away games were cancelled. True, school was mostly virtual. But that meant their son spent nearly eight hours a day on that backyard rink, breathing in the fresh air of the county, and practicing his shots. The hour I spent with this family in the magic pink winter light (that gorgeous light!) was breathtaking. As someone who has never played hockey, it was both fascinating and exhilarating, trying to anticipate where the kids would skate to, who would take the shot, and what the next move would be. Both parents joined in the hockey fun, despite the fact that dad had a cast around his hand because of a broken thumb! Now that’s commitment."
