Tattoos have long traditions and deep cultural roots. On Saturday, September 8th from 11am – 1pm, the L&A County Museum & Archives in Napanee will explore the culture of tattoos through the Indian art of Henna and fusion dance styles from India and the Middle East.

This event is in conjunction with “My Story, My Tattoo”, a travelling exhibit currently on display that features 32 photographs of people and their amazing tattoos. After exploring the exhibit, enjoy the sounds of Middle Eastern and Indian dance with the Silk Road Carnival, who will get your toes tapping and your body shimmying to the eastern drums. Those in attendance are encouraged to learn some moves through mini lessons and audience participation.

The Silk Road Carnival will be performing and teaching belly dancing.  Tribal Pulse will also be on hand to discuss the historical significance of Henna tattoos, as well as creating beautiful henna art. For those interested in commissioning a tattoo ($15 payable to the artist), a station will be set up for henna applications. Tattoos will be applied on a first come, first serve basis. Glitter tattoos for children will also be available to purchase for $2.

Admission to this event is free. The Lennox & Addington County Museum & Archives is located at 97 Thomas Street East in Napanee. For more information visit www.CountyMuseum.ca or call 613-354-3027.
