After nearly three years of serving a range of clients at its location in Tamworth, Carrie-Lee Jeffrey has moved her Stone Mills Massage Therapy practice to an expanded facility on her own property in Croydon. The growing demand for various forms of natural and alternative healing for the mind, body and soul is what prompted the ambitious changes, and it’s paying off with an ever-growing client roster from throughout the entire region.

Three treatment rooms available at the new site

In addition to her own work as a registered massage therapist, she has brought on two new staff members. The big picture plan is to develop a facility that presents a range of holistic, natural and non-intrusive, non-medicinal therapies that can augment other more traditional treatment programs, or help someone begin their journey to overall better health and happiness.

“I want to eventually create a health and wellness centre out here at this facility. I know it’s something that more and more people are looking for. And it makes sense for me to have it out here where we own the land and the building itself,” said owner Carrie-Lee Jeffrey, RMT, who has devoted her professional life to the care of others.

“It’s something that I have always believed. I think it’s important that we need to be more mindful of our situations of our thoughts and our emotions because changing your thoughts can have such a positive impact on your health. If you look at how busy and how stressed out people are these days, it’s to the point now where the worry about what’s on the news or going on in everyone’s lives is making people sick.”

Jeffrey previously worked at a chiropractic clinic in Napanee, but with three active kids and love of the rural lifestyle, she chose to open her own practice in 2014 in the heart of Tamworth. It was an instant success, with a number of her regular clients following her to her own place, as well as a growing reputation for excellent care attracting folks from places like Sydenham, Kingston, most of L&A County and beyond. Most of the clients came via positive word of mouth or from other health care practitioners within the area.

Besides herself, Stone Mills Massage Therapy now features an additional registered massage therapist, Natasha Brown, and manual therapist Kaelah Heney.

“They bring so much to the team and they are just wonderful caring people,” Jeffrey said.

The clientele coming to the revamped Stone Mills Massage truly runs the gamut of age groups and conditions, according to Jeffrey. From babies to seniors, from people dealing with chronic pain or immobility or people recovering from sports injuries or surgery, to moms-to-be, people undergoing treatment for cancer and those just seeking an overall healthier lifestyle, Jeffrey and her new team are seeing a wonderfully diverse group of people come through their doors.

“I think a lot of people are looking for ways to improve their lives, to improve their health and are seeking out therapies that will not only help them reduce their pain in the short term, but learn ways to incorporate healthier habits and healthier thinking into their daily lives. We’re not looking to discourage people from seeking medical treatment, but we are showing them ways they can help themselves, and also giving them some therapies that really complement traditional medicine,” she said.

Jeffrey’s husband constructed the new facility, which also includes a lot more parking than the previous location in Tamworth. It also offers provides in terms of future expansion plans, flexibility for her life as a busy mom, as well as an inviting environment that fits in with the entire ethos and philosophy of her business.

“It’s so peaceful here. We’re right near the Salmon River and are surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. It’s a wonderful environment which I think reinforces what we’re trying to do here,” she said.

Full range of message therapy programs

Massage therapy has proven to be beneficial in reducing stress, alleviating pain, relaxation, improving circulation and mobility. Including educating clients on ways they can help themselves.

Combined with a new focus on improving one’s thinking and being mindful towards how they are cognizant of their own health, Jeffrey believes people can lead happier and more active and vibrant lives.

What is most fulfilling for Jeffery is seeing how her passion for improving the lives of other people, and how she incorporated that and her unique vision for a health and wellness facility into her entrepreneurial ambitions to create something that has truly become successful in every sense of the word.

“I have always focused on this vision and knew that it was something that could help a lot of people. I don’t get caught up in a lot of the negativity in the world. I am a very positive person and it nice to see that my dream is becoming a reality,” she said.

Positive response to new facility

The response to the new facility, new team and new location has been overwhelmingly positive, including from Stone Mills Township who Jeffrey said were immeasurably helpful in getting the new practice up and running towards the end of 2016.

“People around here are so supportive and so encouraging, and that includes the people working at the Township office. They really want you to succeed, because they know it’s good for the community as a whole to have businesses continue to grow and thrive,” she said.
