Social Services | Print |

The Counties of Lennox & Addington and Prince Edward care about people and appreciate the importance of their role in contributing to the economic and social well-being of their citizens and their community through the delivery of Social Services. We are committed to providing programs and resources to help our citizens not only to have the basic necessities of life but also to enable them to live their lives in dignity and as fully participating members of our county community.

The management and delivery of Social Services in the Counties of Lennox & Addington and Prince Edward is consolidated. The Prince Edward Lennox & Addington Social Services (PELASS) Consolidation Agreement designates the County of Lennox & Addington as the Consolidated Municipal Service Manager (CMSM), with requirements for approval by both Councils of annual budgets and changes to cost sharing agreements.

We help people through:

Social Assistance / Ontario Works

Helping people in need through Ontario Works, an Ontario-wide program that municipalities deliver according to provincial regulations and rules. The province shares the cost of delivery with municipalities.

Children's Services / Child Care

We recognize the fundamental importance of child care to our community and the importance of the first years of a child’s life in forming a basis for a good education and social integration into our community and our society. We help by: partnering with other agencies to provide quality child care; providing fee subsidies for parents in need at licensed child care centres in L&A and Prince Edward Counties; and providing support for children with special needs.

Social Housing

The Counties of Lennox & Addington and Prince Edward recognize that well-managed Social Housing (rental housing, developed and maintained by the municipality, with the assistance  of provincial and federal governments, for people in need – individuals and families with low to moderate income, seniors, and people with special needs who can live, with support, in the community) is essential for a community to be socially and economically viable.
