Where is L & A ?
Free L&A County Wine event this weekend | Print |

Local L&A wineries are opening their doors for FREE vineyard tours this weekend at the 3rd Annual Lennox and Addington Wine & Cheese Event.  September 17 and 18 has been declared Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Weekend at the local wineries, where visitors are invited to free vineyard tours as well as wine-tasting, food and entertainment at the third L&A Wine and Cheese event. It’s being organized jointly by the two local wineries, Bergeron Estate Winery & Cider Co. and Thirty Three Vines, both of whom produce award-winning wines in the region.

“Lennox and Addington County has so much to offer in terms of its natural rural beauty and people are now becoming aware that we have two very fine wineries right in our own backyard,” says Stephen Paul, Lennox and Addington County’s Manager of Economic Development.

“This is a great ‘get to know your neighbours’ event,” says Art Maw, who is the new owner of Thirty Three Vines along with his wife Lorrie. “We have excellent soil in our area enables us to produce some remarkably fine wines.”

Bergeron Estate Winery has been busy in recent months expanding their patrons’ experience when visiting the vineyard.  “This is an exciting year as we now have local hard cider available called Cole Point Cider,” says David Bergeron, co-owner/winemaker at Bergeron Estate Winery, along with his wife Mary.

In addition to their new cider product, Bergeron Estate Winery just recently opened a new patio and now produces hand-crafted thin crust Pizzas. Ingredients come from a variety of local producers including Quinn’s Meats in Yarker, a variety of cheeses from Wilton Cheese Factory and Fifth Town Cheese, as well as vegetables from Willow Brook Farm & CSA in Bath.  “The local ingredients have contributed to the amazing flavours found on our pizza. We also do local take out orders as well, which has been well received,” adds Bergeron.

The L&A Wine and Cheese Weekend will run both days, Saturday and Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Visitors are invited to meet the wine-makers as well as enjoy a free tour of the vineyards and taste the local wines – from Chardonnay to Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir, Cabernet Franc, Riesling, Merlot, a Merlot/Cabernet Franc blend, to a Vidal/Riesling blend.   In addition, visitors can sample local cheese and, on Saturday, enjoy local live entertainment at Bergeron Estate Winery.

Both wineries are located on the Loyalist Parkway (HWY #33) just west of Conway and east of Adolphustown over-looking Adolphus Reach.

Lennox and Addington County is situated in southeastern Ontario, conveniently centered between the cities of Kingston and Belleville. The county covers a sprawling area of 2,841 square kilometres, stretching from Lake Ontario northward over 130 kilometers to Renfrew County. The northern half of the county forms part of the Canadian Shield. The southern half of the county is essentially rural, with the exception of the Town of Greater Napanee and the suburban community of Amherstview within Loyalist Township. The rural area is dotted with a number of villages and hamlets which function as commercial and tourism centres for the surrounding area. Settled at first by United Empire Loyalists and later by American and European pioneers, the County is alive with reminders of a rich past: the family names of the earliest pioneers endure, and hundreds of grand Victorian homes and farmsteads still stand as symbols of an era of hard work and bustling growth, their survival and vitality a testament to the vision of the founders.
