New Assistive Technology Announced at County Accessibility Advisory Committee Meeting
On September 27, 2010, the County of Lennox and Addington announced a new assistive feature available on their website called Browse Aloud. Browse Aloud is a tool which is designed to help the print disabled community to read and understand web pages and interact online. This feature is particularly helpful to users with mild visual impairments, literacy difficulties, such as Dyslexia and for users for whom English is a second language.
This announcement was made at a joint meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Committees of Hastings County and the County of Lennox and Addington. Under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001, municipalities with a population of 10,000 or more are required to have a municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee and the majority of the committee members must be persons with disabilities.
Both Lennox and Addington and Hastings have active Accessibility Advisory Committees working diligently to raise awareness of accessibility issues and to assist in the removal of barriers for people with disabilities.
For more information on Browse Aloud please visit the County’s website at www.lennox-addington.on.ca.
