Where is L & A ?
Infrastructure | Print |

Lennox & Addington County’s transportation network includes road, rail, seaway, and air. One day's trucking from L&A reaches one half of North America's industrial and consumer markets. Canadian National bisects this region with Canada's most travelled rail corridor, and its spur lines complement available industrial lots.

L&A's proximity to the St. Lawrence Seaway is another good alternative for shipping manufactured goods or raw materials. L&A is centrally situated among international airports in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Buffalo. We are also connected by Kingston's Norman Rogers Airport and smaller commuter link airports within a 30-minute drive.

Air Information

Inter-city passenger flights are scheduled from Norman Rogers Airport in Kingston to Lester B. Pearson International in Toronto. This service provides efficient connections to hundreds of international and domestic flights. Seven days per week, inter-city passenger flights are scheduled from Norman Rogers Airport in Kingston, Ontario to Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa.

Rail Information

Passenger Rail - VIA information

Passenger service is provided by VIA Rail at the Napanee Train Station. Other passenger train commuting is done at the Belleville and Kingston stations, which are convenient to Lennox & Addington County residents.

Cargo Rail

CN Railway's NAFTA corridor runs through L&A County, effectively connecting local businesses to markets as far away as Mexico.  The Taylor-Kidd Industrial Complex << link to Taylor Kidd page >> has available rail service.  Bombardier, Lennox Generating Station, and Lafarge are some local industries that rely on rail for delivery of their raw materials, petroleum energy, and/or finished products.

Various private sector stakeholders are working with local government to identify the most efficient way of providing rail access to non-serviced industries and vacant industrial land.

Seaway Information

Lennox & Addington County is situated on the Great Lakes/ St. Lawrence Seaway, providing water transportation links to major North American and international ports. The Seaway system encompasses 34 major commercial ports and countless smaller ports on 2,300 miles of waterway stretching from Lake Superior to the Atlantic Ocean.

Businesses in L&A County have access to the Seaway. Both Lafarge Canada (approximate depth of 10-15 metres) and Lafarge Asphalt Engineering (approximate depth of 10 metres) own private docks on Lake Ontario, and large container ships are used by these facilities on a weekly basis. There is significant opportunity to develop more docking facilities, especially at the Lennox Generating Station Co-generation Site and the Taylor-Kidd Industrial Complex. At the Lennox Station, Lake Ontario is nearly 25 m deep only metres from the shoreline.

Alternatively, industries can utilize a number of full service ports that are linked to Lennox & Addington County by the CN Railway and Highway 401.
