Genealogy

Many patrons greatly enjoy the pastime of researching their family's genealogy. Investigating one's family tree can be both rewarding and time-consuming, and Information Services staff can assist with some starting points into conducting your search. Patrons may contact the Museum and Archives who provide in-house and distance genealogical research assistance. Also, as there is so much information available electronically, most patrons begin their search on the Internet, accessing any number of the links provided below.

The Museum and Archives houses a research library and extensive local archives documenting county history, as well as genealogical files for those who want to find their personal connection to the past.

This website is particularly useful for obtaining microfilm information if you wish to place an inter-library loan microfilm request at your local branch library. Microfilm information found on this website includes such examples as: Canadian Census information and Ship Passenger Lists to name a few. The catalogue of microfilm reel numbers is available in print form at Amherstview Branch Library in the Reference Collection.
