Library Funding

Funding for public library service in Ontario comes from two major sources. Municipal governments are the primary source of operating funds for public libraries. In 2002, the County share of the library budget is 15.7% of the total. A secondary source of operating funds is the provincial government which provides funding on an annual per household basis. In 2002, the Province of Ontario, through the Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation, provided $93,400 or 9.8% of the total budget.

Funding for special programs has been provided by:

  • Early Years Challenge Fund - Storytime Projects 0-6yrs;
  • Canada Coucil for the Arts - Author Tour 2004;
  • Industry Canada and Ministry of Culture - Community Access Program; and
  • Trillium Grant Foundation - Collection Development Project.
