Internet Access

Public access computers are available to the patrons during hours of service at each branch library free of charge. This valuable electronic resource provides (but is not limited to) the following programs:

  • Internet access and e-mail (through e-mail providers such as hotmail);
  • word processing;
  • children's educational games;
  • on-line encyclopedias and databases; and
  • CD-ROM computer training.

Computer workstations provide patrons with electronic access to information and educational resources. Staff are available to assist patrons with computer related queries.

Computer Use and Reservations

It is recommended that computers be reserved in advance if possible, especially at the larger branches. The daily maximum time allowance per patron is one consecutive hour or two half-hour sessions per day. During very busy times, staff reserves the right to limit computer access times to one half-hour session.

Valid library cards must be presented for this service; out of town visitors may sign out a computer with a visitor card that is kept at the circulation desk. All patrons/visitors must sign in at the circulation desk before using the computers.

Computer Courses

Information Services offers several introductory courses, including Introduction to Hotmail and Introduction to the Internet, to interested patrons as part of the Community Access Program initiative with Industry Canada. One of the goals of the CAP program is to "connect Canadians". Today, Canada can boast that our country has the greatest number of computer Internet users in the world.

Link to our Schedule of Courses (Programs) for a complete list of courses available and the dates. See course registration below for more information on registering for one of our sessions.

Course Registration

The introductory computer courses are held at the Napanee and Amherstview branches throughout the year. Regularly scheduled courses are posted in each branch and on the County of Lennox and Addington website prior to the course start date to allow for patrons to pre-register. Each course is a single session, about one and half hours in length and consists of half an hour lecture and one hour hands on. Courses are offered free of charge, are limited in size, and patrons must pre-register by telephoning the course co-ordinator.
