The Genealogical Research Library

The genealogical library contains published and unpublished genealogies, published genealogical reference works, micrographic sources, card indices and family files. The collection includes the census for our county (1851-1901). The Ontario Government vital Statistics are not available in the Archives. Family files are the research notes and finds created by volunteers or outside researchers. They are "secondary sources", and not checked for accuracy. Note: The Archives specialize in Lennox and Addington. If your family did not live in Lennox and Addington, or in the Kingston - Bay of Quinte area, it is unlikely that there will be relevant genealogical records.

Historical Collections

The archives has municipal papers from the County of Lennox and Addington, the old Town of Napanee, villages of Newburgh and Bath, and townships within the County. The quantity and type of record from each municipality varies. The archives also has a wide collection of papers of local residents and organizations, from the activities of the Loyalist sons and daughters, up to the present. An excellent, historical library of new and older books complements the archives. The Museum is the custodian of the Napanee Standard, Napanee Express, Napanee Beaver, The Heritage and other local newspapers. Research access is granted only to issues which are microfilmed; that is, up to and including 1977. The Museum also has other microfilm useful for local research.

The Photograph Collection

There are over 10,000 original images in the collections of the Lennox and Addington Historical Society. Close to 5,000 are indexed by subject matter or sitter.
